Welcome to the Department of Natural Resources
The Department of Natural Resources traces its roots back to the Cornell College of Forestry, the first college of its kind in North America. The department continues to be just as innovative today, focusing on the interplay of the ecological and social sciences in fostering environmental sustainability.
Our students, professors, and outreach program participants explore issues related to maximizing biodiversity, enhancing and sustaining ecosystems, mitigating climate change, and managing natural resources in partnership with local groups, state agencies, and national and international environmental organizations.
Recently ranked one of the top four college environmental programs in the nation by a leading sustainability website, with an A-plus grade for its “education, experience and research opportunities,” the Department of Natural Resources offers numerous ways for students, scientists, and citizens to be part of a vital and growing field.
