The Field of Natural Resources offers students the freedom to design a graduate program that addresses their individual interests. Students work with faculty advisors to identify course requirements and to define a research or professional project.

In order to be admitted, a faculty member must be willing to supervise and ensure funding for a prospective student, therefore it is important to correspond with potential faculty advisors during the application process.  A faculty member must sponsor your application for review by the Admissions Committee in order to be offered admission.  Individual mentoring by faculty is fundamental to our philosophy of graduate education and to the success of our students.

Degrees Offered:

We offer two research degrees: the Master of Science and Doctorate of Philosophy. We also offer a professional degree: the Masters of Professional Studies (M.P.S.).

M.S./Ph.D

The Graduate Field of Natural Resources offers advanced studies leading to the degrees of M.S. and Ph.D. These degrees require a focus on primary research, including supplemental courses at the graduate level.

M.P.S.

A Master of Professional Studies (M.P.S.) degree is available for students whose interests are not primarily research-oriented. This degree is typically pursued by those already employed in a professional capacity who plan to continue in this field, yet seek further coursework to upgrade their skills and knowledge.
